John Byers (U.K)
Since 1992, John Byers, has been principally involved in the performing arts, including the successful, Harpenden based musical theatre group, StableRock.
Some four years ago John started working part time as an artist. Now working mostly in acrylics and pastels, he takes his inspiration from a variety of sources including landscapes, contemporary culture, the media and the world of science and technology.
John works with a free style, producing abstract and exaggerated images full of energy and vibrant colour. Frequently working with multiple layers of translucent paint, John explains that he likes to let the medium move about the canvas - mixing and blending to produce unique images that cannot always be for-seen.
“I don’t always want to impose my preconceptions on the subject” he says, “I like to let the paint speak for itself and surprise me”.
His work explores the many layered nature of art and the way it can speak to the viewer on a number of levels. As he puts it “Being one thing, but meaning another”.
